At the Primorsky Aquarium in Vladivostok, 14-year-old beluga whale Jessica gave birth to a baby. According to the press service of the institution, this is the first case in Russia of the birth of white whale calves in captivity.
According to the director of the dolphinarium Igor Kostychev, the beluga whale gave birth on its own, without the help of specialists. In a week, the puppy learned to swim and hold his breath for a long time. The video of Jessica with her daughter was posted on the YouTube platform.
Currently, the little beluga whale goes through the first molt in its life and gradually changes color, indicating normal development. After a few months, the calf will start to taste fish, but for the first year and a half to two years it will depend on mother’s milk.
Earlier in Sakhalin, a beluga whale swam to the shore and played with the people who were resting there. A video of the incident was posted online. The images show how the whale swims aground and bathers begin to caress it. The mammal then disappears, but soon returns to humans.
