Ukraine’s Foreign Minister Dmitry Kuleba explained the European Union (EU) reluctance to accept Ukraine into its ranks. According to him, Western countries use the issue of problems with reforms in the country to not admit their unwillingness to talk about their membership of the EU. “I want you to understand me correctly: we are supporters of reforms and we are introducing reforms. However, I am frankly tired of being on the lookout for reforms so as not to recognize the truth: it is not Ukraine that is not ready for the path to the EU, but the EU is not ready to accept Ukraine, ”Kuleba said. .
He noted that now the relations between Ukraine and Brussels represent a “strategic uncertainty”. “We asked what we should do for the sake of EU membership, but they do not give us an answer and only say: work more,” clarified the chancellor, adding that joining the organization is a political issue that the European Union is not yet in. ready to answer. “And this does not depend on reforms,” concluded Kuleba.
Earlier, Ukraine’s President Volodymyr Zelensky said that the European Union and NATO will suffer losses if they do not accept Ukraine into their ranks, in the future they will gradually weaken.
At the same time, Estonian President Kersti Kaljulaid explained such EU decision by the fact that while Ukraine is “a few light years away” from joining the union due to corruption and non-compliance with the Copenhagen criteria .
