Lewis Hamilton reaches the following milestone at the Russian Grand Prix: the seven-time world champion celebrates the 100th success of his career in Sochi.
Hamilton did not get off to a good start and fell back to seventh place. Pole Lando Norris also had to give up the lead to Carlos Sainz, but he got it back on lap 13.
After the pit stops, Norris and Hamilton fight a duel for the victory before everything turns upside down at the finish line. When it starts to rain, Hamilton takes a risk at the end and puts on rain tires, while Norris takes a risk and is not rewarded for it. The pole-sitter doesn’t bow to the weather until the penultimate lap and changes tires, but this puts him in seventh place.
The big beneficiary of the turbulent finish is Max Verstappen, who is struggling to move up from 20th place to second. However, the Red Bull driver has to hand over the championship lead to Hamilton.
Carlos Sainz completes the podium in third place. Behind them are Daniel Ricciardo (McLaren), Valtteri Bottas (Mercedes) and Fernando Alonso (Alpine).
